A poem written for Christmas - December 25, 1845.

Shevchenko did not know then that this, his poetry will be a very popular song, national anthem,

a call to fight a battle not only his home but also far beyond.

I did not think about fame, nor honor, nor the possible punishment for their bold ideas.

He just wanted to - maybe for the last time - to tell people that thought it felt. It was his will.
