History and way of celebration.
The New Year is one of the oldest festivals of the world, dating back to the pre historic era. The earliest instance of New Year is found in Mesopotamian culture. It was about 2000 BC, when the people of Babylon used to observe New Year celebrations on the day of the Vernal Equinox that is during the middle of March. It was the Romans, who recognized March 1 as New Year Day in their calendar.
Until XV century in Russ a new year was celebrated also on March 1 by the Julian calendar. From XV century, a new year began on September 1. In 1700 by decree of Tsar Peter I the New Year in the Russian Empire is celebrated on January 1.
This is still not the end of the New Year History. Several new calendars were been devised. Julius Caesar implemented the Julian calendar which was created based on the solar system whereas the previous calendar were based on the lunar cycle. The Christianity has added up new meaning to the New Year Celebration by lionizing the Christmas Day, the Annunciation Day and The Easter as New Year Day at various times. There had also been times when January 1 had been abolished to be celebrated as New Year altogether.
How gymnasium is being prepared for New Year celebration.
Pupils and teachers are decorating classes. Students bring their own decorations to make our school prettier. Children also draw wall newspapers and posters for New Year. There should be a fairy New Year mood floating all around, and everybody will feel it soon! Eighth forms have got a disco party on December 24. Teachers allowed to organize it in the school canteen and invited professional DJ. We are looking forward to the party: boys think what music it will be there, girls decide what to wear...
And what do you think about New Year celebration in our gymnasium?
Marry Christmas and Happy New Year!
