iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) is the world’s largest, most experienced online K-12 non-profit network that enables young people worldwide to use the internet and digital media to collaborate on educational projects.
- IEARN has turned 30 this year.
We know that you, as a teacher of English, were among the first teachers from the Gymnasium
participating in IEARN?
-Yes, that's true. But not only me, also Inna Mykhailivna Kruhlova, a teacher of computer studies, was.
- When was it?
- We started in 2000-2001 school year.
- Really?! It was a long time ago.
- Yes, I've got wonderful memories of students' creativity and collaboration.
Now we are also working in IEARN with our teachers Ms Byzova, Ms Savchenko and Ms Pikush.
We exchange photos, videos, using the IEARN online platform for posting information
and talking online to peers around the world.
What did IEARN activities use to look like almost 20 years ago?
- At that time not all the teachers even had e-mails, there was no good internet at school.
We managed to send students' written works, then they were published in paper.
Students were finally very proud to see their work in IEARN magazines.
- That's awesome! What else did your students use to do?
- To communicate with other schools my students used to write ordinary letters.
Working with students from Brazil, we received a Brazilian teddy bear,
which stayed with different families sending letters to Brazil about life in Ukraine.
A Ukrainian teddy bear lived in Brazilian families sending letters about life in Brazil.
- Just amazing! We love it. It must have been very touching to wait for the news.
Thank you for the interview.
