Learning foreign languages is very important nowadays. But learning a lot of words is a bit boring. How to make it more interesting? We started dramatizing dialogues, sketches & performances. While learning students improve their vocabulary, phonetics & grammar. We played stories of Hot Dog & Cool Cat, Characters of Shakespeare, O’Henry , Oscar Wilde & other writers in the past.
We performed “Sleeping Beauty” “Snow Queen”& “Goldy Locks”. All decorations & costumes students did by themselves. We spent much time rehearsing on the stage. Students usually find music, which suits the performance.
This year our students have presented “Red-headed League” by Conan Doyle. Detective stories always attract everybody’s attention. The story is gripping, Sherlock Holmes is clever as usually. He helps people solve the case. He smokes his pipe, thinks & understands everything. He fights evil &criminals. The more he works the more criminals are caught. Dr. Watson is his friend & biographer. All the characters were presented by 8 e formers. Nice costumes, good music, beautiful decorations have made the performance unforgettable.
Some years ago students of our school took part in the contest of English-speaking theatres. They won some nominations for best music, best knowledge of the English language & nice decorations. I must mention that all the students want to play parts in the performances. We see, playing performances is one of the best ways to make lessons more interesting & helpful.
Reading the article I feel proud of our 8-e students and recollect my former students who presented My Fair Lady in 2004. What a wonderful tradition of the theatrical performances in the Gymnasium! I felt happy, excited and a bit nervous at the end of the show, and I wonder what the actors' feelings were?
